'Clash of the Families' Draws Over 2 Million Viewers
The romantic comedy "Clash of the Families" starring Song Sae-byeok and Lee Si-yeong has drawn over two million moviegoers nationwide in less than a month after its debut.
According to the Korean Film Council , the film drew 82,544 viewers on Saturday alone, bringing the total number since its released 24 days ago to 2.07 million.
It is the second film this year to reach the two million-mark after "Detective K", which was released during the Lunar New Year's holidays and attracted 4.7 million viewers.
The success of "Clash of the Families" is credited mainly to its humor, which has attracted viewers from all age groups. The accomplishment is especially noteworthy as it comes in spring, a low season for cinemas as it marks the start of professional sports seasons and other outdoor activities.
The movie portrays the struggle of a romantic comic book writer to tie the knot with his girlfriend over the strong disapproval of their families, as they come from different regions with a long history of antagonism toward each other.
