The Wachowski siblings, Lana (47) and Andy (45), who shot to stardom after directing "The Matrix" trilogy, visited Korea ahead of the release of their latest movie "Cloud Atlas", which is due to be released at local theaters on Jan. 10. They were accompanied by co-director Tom Tykwer (47) and stars including Korea's own Bae Doona.

During the press conference held at a hotel in Seoul on Thursday, Lana Wachowski said that Bae Doona's talent and uniqueness shines even in the presence of more established stars like Tom Hanks and Halle Berry.

"Cloud Atlas" is based on the eponymous sci-fi novel and consists of six interrelated stories set in different time periods and places.

When asked why a futuristic-looking Seoul was chosen as one of the major settings, the directors said that the past and future coexist in Seoul, so the city works well with the film's themes, and that even the name of the city is perfect as it sounds like "soul".

The film, which premiered in the U.S. in October, got a mixed reception from critics and didn't fare well at the box office there.

Meanwhile, to clarify what happened to the Wachowski brothers -- as they were credited at the time of the Matrix movies -- Lana was originally named Larry before undergoing sexual reassignment surgery a few years ago.
